William and Vernie DeMille with the 4E's (Ezekiel, Ephraim, Enoch, & Esther)
We have been farming all our lives. William was raised on a small self-reliant family farm in Southern Utah and Vernie was raised in the Southern Cascades of Northern California on an antique apple orchard. The love of the land and the harvests gleaned from it were cultivated early in our lives and as William has often said "We were born to be farmers."
It is a life and work that we take seriously. We determined long ago that living and working with the land was an essential part of our family dynamic. Through countless changes from college, veterinary work, construction, carpentry, and teaching; farming has remained constant. No wage, house, or benefit has ever replaced for us the simple joy of raising the finest vegetables, fruits, and livestock in a way that sustains our family, the animals and the earth from which they were taken. We finally decided to make our avocation our vocation and life's work. For the past 15 years of our married life we have never been without a garden, and for many years it has provided a large quantity of the food we eat. Each Spring has brought with it excitement, experimentation, and trials of our favorite varieties and new flavors, colors and textures with which to paint a glorious masterpiece for the palate.
We farm full-time in Oregon City, Oregon and are continually amazed at the wide scope of foods that can be grown here in the Willamette Valley. It is, without a doubt, heaven on earth for gardeners. Many evenings we have stood in the field beside our propagation greenhouse and just marveled at the violet tinted, gold-gilded, green-ness of this amazing farm. Mt. Hood stands watch like a benevolent monarch, pleased with the work of his subjects and we find ourselves more than happy to serve.
We invite you to peruse our website, come visit
our farm, get to know us and give us the opportunity to be your
personal farmers. We encourage everyone who is looking for better
choices in healthy, flavor-rich, home-grown foods to consider the
option of having a personal farmer this year. We look forward to
serving you and invite you to come and participate with us in growing
not only high-quality food, but a healthy community as well.
